| I
have had dogs since I was 10 years old. I currently have Labradors
and Pugs as well as a rescued terrier. The first dog training I did
was to train my miniature schnauzer to pull my little sister around
in a wagon and to climb a slide.
In
college I adopted a dog from the local shelter and put her in dog
obedience classes -- that was when I learned about obedience trials
although I had a mixed breed dog so could not show her. When she
passed on I got my first Lab and again went to obedience classes.
This time I was encouraged by the instructors to try showing in
obedience and from there I was "bitten by the bug".
I
have taught classes for about 15 years and currently teach a variety
of classes -- obedience, puppy, agility and tracking at kennel clubs
and private training facilities. I find there are many tools/methods
that one can use to train a dog and am flexible about adjusting
the method to the dog rather than expecting every dog to fit into
one mold.
I
compete with my own dogs in the breed ring, agility, tracking, hunt
tests and obedience, assist with both Labrador and Pug rescue efforts
and occasionally have a litter under my kennel name of Dunn's Marsh
Labradors & Pugs. Website: http://www.dunnsmarshlabs.com
